Adding Your Own Music to Unreal Tournament Levels
Platform: Unreal Tournament 2004/UnrealEd
UnrealEd is the platform for creating and editing game content for Unreal Tournament and many other video games. It is an incredibly powerful suite of tools for game creation. Here is how to add or change the background music track for a specific level.
NOTE: you should be familiar with exactly what UnrealEd is - visit the UDN at Epic Games to learn more: http://udn.epicgames.com/Main/WebHome.html
Adding your own music to a level is probably the easiest thing to do with audio in UnrealEd 3 - there are only a few steps:
- Make sure your music file is in .OGG Vorbis format. If you don't know what OGG Vorbis is, click here to visit Vorbis.com. Acid and Sound Forge will write .OGG files. If you need a converter, get dbPowerAmp.
- Place your .OGG song file in the Sounds folder in your UT2004 folder.
- In UnrealEd, go to the View menu and choose Level Properties. Click the + sign next to Audio.
- In the Song field, type in the name of the song. Do NOT type the .ogg extension, only the song name EXACTLY as the file is named.
- Rebuild your level as usual, and when you play the map, you will hear your audio.
This is only a technical explanation of how to place music in your map. If your song is not looping properly, or you can't hear it even with all the settings in the Editor cranked, then your sound file needs work. I'll be posting tips for these issues on this site, so stay tuned.
